The Art of Drag: Queer Innovation.
Description
Queer Innovation brings together three local drag artists for an evening exploring drag as performance, storytelling, creativity and self-expression.
Featuring Princess Laya, Fifi LaDouche and Justin Thyme, the event begins with a facilitated conversation exploring their journeys into drag, how they develop their personas and performances, and the creativity behind their costumes, characters and work.
Together, we’ll explore drag as an art form, how it plays with expectations around gender and identity, and its role in queer culture and community.
Following the conversation and a short break, our artists will take to the stage for live drag performances.
There’ll also be a drop-in creative activity where you can develop a drag persona of your own. Give them a name, sketch their look, develop their personality and imagine what they might perform. No drag or artistic experience required.
Everyone is welcome. Come for the conversation, stay for the performances, make something, or experience the whole event.
