The Artist club presents: Hoss from Dog Box guitars

Join Hoss (aka Michael Cotterill), a Luthier at Dog Box Guitars for an afternoon learning about the craftsmanship of his lapslide guitars. Following his discussion he will share a performance on his lapslide guitars.

Hi I’m Hoss, and around twelve years ago I started to produce my own instruments. This originally took the form of several cigar box guitars and a solid lapslide built in the heat and humidity of the Northern Territory. Moving to Perth in 2016 I embarked on building my first weissenborn guitar. Tenyears later, I’m building my tenth, six of which have been completed in the last year. Along the way I have also produced solid lapslide guitars and a parlour guitar based on the Gibson L00.

Please come and join me for a presentation and performance of weissenborn lapslide guitars as I discuss the steps in building these wonderful instruments anddemonstrate styles in which they can be utilised.  

The presentation will include photographs of the methodology accompanied by the actual jigs used in the process. Samples of the tonewood used will also be on display. 

The performance will include interpretations of well known songs and some basic theory on how the instrument is played.
