The Avenue Reserve, Lynfield - native planting site weeding and mulching event
Description
Please join us to help ensure that new native plants at this awesome environmental restoration site survive and thrive through the predicted summer droughts (linked to el nino). We'll be removing weeds and adding extra mulch to retain moisture around the plants.
During the Matariki holiday in winter we transformed this under-utilised patch of grass into a future habitat area for native wildlife, which will provide environmental education opportunities for local schools while leaving some open space for recreation. This project is supported by Puketāpapa Local Board, Halsey Drive School and Transpower's Community Care Fund which assists communities affected by Transpower's overhead lines and substations by investing in local projects that add value and long-term benefits to those communities.
