The Barri Yulug Gariwerd (Grampians) Experience - Grade 2 (Easy)
Event description
The Wimmera Bushwalking Club invites you to join them on the Barri Yulug Gariwerd (Grampians) Experience. This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.
Set deep amongst the towering spires of the Grampians, this is a great walk from creek, to bush, to views, to lush gully, to historic area, to bush road walking and more.
DISTANCE: Loop Walk of approx. 5km (2.5hrs) plus travel from Horsham.
WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? For walkers that will not be left behind or become lost, for walkers that want to try a club walk.
CHILDREN AND PETS: This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home. Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.
AWT GRADE 2 (Easy): Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. AWT Grade information.
PACE: Slow and Steady
TOTAL ASCENT: Approx. 100m rise to the summit.
WALK DESCRIPTION:
The walk starts at Borough Huts campground , and heads along the creek to a creek crossing on stepping stones. We then wind our way through bushland to Barri Yulug campground (toilet)] with some steps and rocky trail onto easy summit for great views. Then we head back down the track, diverting down a more lush track to Redmans Rd Trail head (water should be available), continuing along the Peaks Trail to the old water Flume that fed water to Pomonal through a tunnel. We will then return back to Redmans rd and continue down the road to Borough Huts campground. All the walk is on dirt track with some steps and some rocky sections of track (slippery if wet).
MEETING POINT: Horsham Wimmera Library Carpark - 28 McLachlan St, Horsham.
DIRECTIONS: Google map: Wimmera Libraries. Carpooling will be provided from Horsham to the start point. Alternatively you may follow in your own car on all sealed roads.
PHONE SIGNAL: Most likely no phone signal for majority of walk.
TOILETS: Toilets at start and end of walk plus near summit at Peaks Trail camp.

ABOUT OUR CLUB: The Wimmera Bushwalking Club has approx. 30 members with ages ranging from 15 to 80, and enjoy anything from wildflower walks to snow shoe walks.
