The Battle Of Holbeck Moor Rebel Music Gig

Event description

🎸 Rock Out and Resist with Love Music Hate Racism🎸

Get ready for a proper good night of rebel music and resistance in memory of The Battle Of Holbeck Moor!

Date: 21.09.2024

Venue: 3 Jenkinson Lawn, Holbeck, Leeds LS11 9QX

Time: 4-10pm

In 1936 fascists led by Oswald Mosely descended on Holbeck to spread their hate. They were met by 30,000 anti-fascists who repeatedly sang The Red Flag to drown out their speeches. The fascists retreated under a hail of stones, one hitting Mosley himself.

In September the battle is being commemorated with a long awaited Civic Trust Blue Plaque. This comes at a time when we’ve seen a spate of far right attacks across the country. And just like the anti-racists on Holbeck Moor, and Cable street and up and down the country in the 1930s, in 2024 the fascists were outnumbered and sent packing once again. A reminder that the threat is ever present but that there are many many more of us than them.

We’re bringing together local bands and voices from our community to stand up against hate, oppression, and fascism and remember all who’ve fought before. This ain’t just a gig—its a powerful statement of unity!

Folk involved so far: Lewis ‘Burner’ Pugh, Ushingi, Leeds Community Music Collective presenting: Radical Songs of Solidarity, Rory Wells, Emma McKee, Jake Gray, Matter, Tom Priestley, Henry Raby. More to be added. Get in touch to get involved!

Tickets are free with a PAYF donation option (£3-10). All proceeds go towards supporting LMHR Leeds. Together, we’ll amplify the voices of the oppressed and drown out the noise of hate.

Come for the tunes, stay for the cause.

NO PASARÁN!

✊Solidarity through sound, Yorkshire style✊
