The Book of Styles: West Coast Popping Battle

Book of Styles is having their West Coast Popping Battle at Black & Tan Hall. The Book of Styles focuses on the preservation of the Boogaloo & Popping culture through research, education, and our annual dance competition and show!

Dancers from all over the West Coast will be coming through to join the competition and try to take home the winning trophy and a free flight to Washington DC for the final competition in June.

During the West Coast competition in May, our judges will pick the top 16 dancers from the preliminary rounds to go into a tournament style dance contest. The top 16 will compete in the "Book of Styles Challenge" and 1 on 1 battles!

THE B.O.S CHALLENGE

The Digital Book of Styles Randomizer chooses what style dancers will do before the beginning of each round. The challenge continually evolves as the rounds progress going from 1 style, to 2 styles combined, and eventually all the way to the fusion of 3 styles. With this format, dancers are challenged to go deep into one perspective but still have to be adaptable enough to mix them together in new and creative ways.

DJ Tinman will be spinning a large variety of classic and modern funk tracks for jam sessions, the battle, and our judges’ performances as well. Come through and enjoy an evening of great music, lots of dance cyphers, and a dance-off performance for your viewing entertainment!
