Prism House Productions is delighted to invite you to witness eight incredible women/artists take the stage, using text and physical theatre to bring this powerful story to life. In David Campton’s The Cagebirds, six women live in a locked room, each fixated on her own obsession while placating the controlling “Mistress.” Their world is thrown into chaos when the rebellious “Wild One” enters, challenging their fragile existence. This roller coaster of comedy and drama explores themes of oppression, power, and obsession, leading to a dramatic climax that reveals stark truths about our world. The Cagebirds appears as an absurdist comedy at first but at its core is a drama challenging audiences about their lives and choices.

The play runs for approximately 45-55 minutes.

Zachary Boulton holds an Advanced Diploma of Acting from the University of Canberra and a Bachelor of Applied Theatre from Griffith University. Notable credits include Pat Malone’s Magic Garden (2024) Fuel & Viral (2024) with Shock Therapy Productions, Disney’s Nautilus (2023), Jessy (Writer/Director, 2021), The Brighton Miracle (2020), and Brisbane (2023). He has worked in theatre with Queensland Theatre, La Boite, and Belloo Creative and represented major brands in advertising. Zac is also Teaching Artist with extensive experience, collaborating with multiple companies in Brisbane and the Gold Coast

Megan Hind, born and raised in Brisbane/Meanjin, transitioned from international fashion modeling to acting, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from NIDA. There, she specialized in Physical Theatre, mentored by Gavin Robins, and received the Keith Bain Movement Scholarship. Megan has appeared in Australian and US television, award-winning short films, and debuted on stage in the Melbourne Theatre Company and Queensland Theatre’s Emerald City. For two years, she has lectured in Movement and Acting at JMC Academy, a role that inspired her directorial debut, marking an exciting evolution in her creative career.

Anna Loren is a writer, director, actor, and teaching artist working across stage and screen. Recent acting credits include Land of Bad (Hoodlum Entertainment) and Mother Tongue (IndiVisual Films). She holds a Master’s in Ensemble Theatre from Rose Bruford, with training from practitioners including Complicite, Punchdrunk, and the RSC. Anna has directed for heartBeast Theatre, Ad Astra, and JMC Academy. Her play COMFORT was a Queensland Premier’s Drama Award finalist, and she received Playwriting Australia’s Erin Thomas Fund for 22. Anna teaches acting at JMC Academy and NIDA Open and is developing her play 10,000 Steps in a Day with APT.

Jessica Veurman holds a BA (Drama) from QUT and has extensive theatre credits, including Kill Climate Deniers (That Production Company), Holding Achilles (Legs on The Wall & Dead Puppet Society, Understudy), Water Wars (Umber Productions), and work with Queensland Theatre. She won a Matilda Award for acting in 2007, with further nominations in 2011 and 2018. Film and TV credits include Before We’re Gone, Iron Sky, and Inspector Gadget 2. Jessica has taught Drama at Griffith University for over 25 years and completed a Research Masters in 2020 on the actor’s role in education.

Julia Johnson has built a career portraying complex female roles, including Marina in So Much to Tell You (National Tour), Cunegonde in Candide (Belvoir St), and La Braukmann in Conquest of the South Pole (Q Theatre). In Brisbane, her work includes Hecate in MACB (Brisbane Powerhouse), Nat in Rabbit Hole (Ad Astra), and Gloucester in King Lear Monster Show (The Curators). Film and TV credits include Follow My Way, Judge for Yourself, and Paramount’s Monster Problems. Julia co-founded A Moveable Theatre, creating 40 interactive shows at the Sydney Opera House and beyond, embodying many roles from princesses to Ebenezer Scrooge.

Born in Manchester and raised in Queensland with British/Nigerian roots, Francesca Jaiyeola is a multidisciplinary, multicultural artist. A QUT graduate (Bachelor of Creative Industries, Drama/Dance, 2009), she trained in physical theatre and clowning. A member of Red Thread Stories’ Playback Theatre since 2012, Francesca excels in deep listening, a skill she brought to comedy improv at Big Fork Theatre. Credits include Wer Ya From (2024), Whose Language Is It Anyway (2024), and Pre-Lunch Broadcast (Big Fork Cage Match finalist, 2023). A member of Bring A Plate Inclusive Dance Company, Francesca recently began developing her one-woman show with Vulcana

Rosie Keogh is an award-winning Australian film/tv actress, best known for her roles as Ella in Dark Origins and Ellie in Shiver, both earning her Best Actress awards nationally and internationally. Raised in Crows Nest, Queensland, she discovered her passion for acting in high school and went on to earn an Advanced Diploma of Arts (Acting) in 2012. Her professional debut was in ABC TV's Parer's War (2014), followed by roles in Home & Away and the feature film Rise. Rosie is currently producing a comedy web series, set for release in early 2025, and also works as a photographer and producer.

Crystal Coleman is a multi-disciplinary artist who specialises in devised and physical theatre. With a background in dance and movement, Coleman uses their body as a tool to create unique character physicalisation and to completely transform into a role. Caged Birds, is Coleman’s debut production since graduating from JMC earlier this year. While at JMC, Coleman has delivered diverse performances in various productions, including: JAN in DNA by Dennis Kelly, BEVERLY in Summer of the Aliens by Louis Nowra, MIRANDA in The Tempest and ISABELLA in Measure for Measure.

Emily Marszalek has pursued acting and performance since childhood, earning a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Acting and Performance) through TAFE QLD/University of Canberra. She has trained with Brisbane artists including Anatoly Frusin, Lisa O’Neill, and Stephen Lance, performing at Ad Astra, Norman Price Theatre, and Queensland Theatre. An emerging artist, Emily aims to create work that intrigues and challenges audiences while also exploring behind-the-scenes roles to produce independent projects. Passionate about developing Brisbane’s theatre scene, she aspires to push creative boundaries in both stage and film.
