THE EMBLEMATIC AUSSIE: TWO PILGRIMS IN SEARCH OF AN ICON
Emeritus Professor Roland Sussex & Major General, Professor John Pearn AO RFDÂ
If ever there was an emblem of a people, Sir Winston Churchill was it. Not that every Englishman (or Australian, or Canadian, or Scotsman …) wanted to look or sound like him. That was beyond human capacity. But people saw in Churchill aspects, qualities, and fine resonant words, to which they responded. He stood for them by being himself. For the 2024 Churchill Oration, Roly Sussex and John Pearn will address a related question, prompted by the Churchill emblem: what are the aspects, qualities and words which evoke and stand for an Australian?
