Women and girls continue to suffer from discrimination around the world, despite significant progress towards gender equality under the UN Millennium Development Goals.

Gender equality is required for a peaceful and sustainable world and this event aims to help continue the conversation and raise awareness for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, emerging data and reports from those on the front lines, have shown that all types of violence against women and girls, particularly domestic violence, has intensified.

The level of domestic violence incidents within a community has a strong negative correlation with social, economic and cultural inequalities between the genders.

Hosted by the UNAA NSW Young Professionals Network, we invite key speakers Maha Abdo OAM, CEO Muslim Women Australia, Michael Perusco, CEO Berry Street and Simone Clarke, CEO UN Women Australia to discuss the impact that the global pandemic has had on domestic violence within Australia.
