Description

From the humble beet to the botanical curiosity of the tomato, The Curious Lives of Vegetables reveals the important, unusual, and downright fascinating stories behind the plants that nourish us.

Join illustrator Adriana Picker on Saturday, 19th September to celebrate her latest book and learn her tips and tricks for drawing beautiful vegetables. Hosted in our intimate Wedge Gallery space, this is a guided workshop for a maximum of 10 guests, where you'll draw your favourite vegetables from the book and take home a signed copy of The Curious Lives of Vegetables.

The workshop will be hosted from 11am to 12.30pm in the Wedge Gallery, near the escalators at the main entrance to Books Kinokuniya.

Tickets are $40 (plus GST and booking fee), which includes a signed book. All drawing materials will be supplied.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR:

Adriana makes detailed and romantic illustrations all about the natural world and how we interact with it. She takes inspiration from her mother’s garden, North American trees, and the freedom of digital illustration. Adriana grew up in Australia, where she studied Design at The University of New South Wales. After a 5 year stint in New York City, she is now settling into life in Sydney, Australia.

She has created work for Readings Books, botanical inspired illustrations for Vogue Australia, collaborated with T2 on a teawares range and created a backdrop for the Planned Parenthood spring gala. Adriana is most known for her books PETAL, The Cocktail Garden, Garden of Earthly Delights and Where the Wildflowers Grow.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

The Curious Lives of Vegetables by Ali Francis brings together 110 of Adriana Picker's beautiful illustrations that showcase the magic of everyday vegetables.

Food journalist and former Bon Appétit staff writer Ali Francis blends cultural history, science, and narrative storytelling to spotlight rare, heirloom, and overlooked vegetables as a way of telling bigger stories—about biodiversity, flavour, memory, and the invisible forces that determine what ends up on our plates. Each illuminating essay is paired with a sublime illustration―reminiscent of antique botanical art―by celebrated artist Adriana Picker.

Please note, this workshop is facilitated by Adriana Picker and Books Kinokuniya. Ali Francis will not in attendance.
