The Walking Club of Victoria invites you to join them on the Delightful Tirhatuan Park Dandenong Creek Walk: Grade 2 (Easy). This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.
Try this walk with the Walking Club of Victoria through the Tirhatuan Park, set in an attractive flood plain beside Dandenong Creek in the suburb of Dandenong North. The park offers plenty of variety, with areas of woodland, boardwalks, lakes and the ever- present creek winding north to south along its length. Consequently, the variety of birds attracted to the area include many water birds as well as an array of large and small woodland birds.
DISTANCE: An easy going 6.5 km.
WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? A walk suited to beginners and those wanting to see an extensive variety of birds that make the Dandenong Creek their home!
CHILDREN AND PETS: This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home. Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.
AWT GRADE: 2 (Easy) - No bushwalking experience required. A hardened or compacted surface which may have gentle hill sections or occasional steps. AWT Grade information.
PACE: An easy going slower pace pace, tailored to the needs of the group.
TOTAL ASCENT: Mostly flat with gentle undulations,
WALK DESCRIPTION: An opportunity for some gentle exercise while taking in the surrounding environment and birdlife on this walk that ends where we started!

CARPOOLING/PUBLIC TRANSPORT: It is best to drive to the start of this walk. No need for 4WD for access

WHAT TO BRING
Mandatory:
- Emergency contact form with medical info (from welcome pack)
- 1.5L water
- Backpack
- Rain jacket
- Walking shoes
- Personal first aid kit (your health is your responsibility)
- Sun hat/sunscreen
Recommended:
- Morning tea and lunch. (To be eaten on the trail).
- Optional hiking poles
- Insect spray

EXTRA INFORMATION: The northern end of the park can be subject to flooding after heavy rain. The leader will advise alternative options if required.

ABOUT OUR CLUB: The Walking Club of Victoria is a small friendly club where new members are very welcome. We offer two or three walks per week, on Wednesday and Sunday and a Strollers Walk usually on a Thursday or Friday every two or three weeks. We always end our Sunday walks at a coffee shop or car boot afternoon tea. Wednesday walks start with coffee and are accessible by public transport. Our members generally live in inner and outer suburban Melbourne and our walks can be in the North, South, East or West, but usually within an hour or hour and half of the city. Every year we offer numerous weekday and weekend walking trips, coupling together two or three consecutive days of walking, and social activities.
