ARTY ANIMALS
RECYCLED FORM • EXPRESSIVE CHARACTER • SCULPTURAL PLAY
1.5 DAY CHRISTMAS SCULPTURE WORKSHOP with Ashley Hay Art
Recycled Form • Expressive Character • Sculptural Play
Dogs have a special way of becoming part of our stories.
They greet us at the door, walk beside us through life's seasons, make us laugh, comfort us when we need it most, and leave paw prints on our hearts long after they are gone.
In this special Christmas edition of Ashley’s Arty Animals series, you'll create an expressive dog sculpture complete with its own festive Santa hat - a playful celebration of the dogs we love and the joy they bring to our lives.
Over one and a half creative days, you'll be guided step-by-step through the process of transforming simple recycled materials into a character-filled sculpture uniquely your own.
Using recycled bottles, aluminium foil, wire, masking tape, and Powertex Art Supplies, you'll learn how to build sculptural form, posture, texture, and personality while discovering the creative possibilities hidden within everyday materials.
Designed for beginners and beyond, this workshop is supportive and process-led. No previous sculpting experience is required.
Perfect For:
• Dog lovers
• Beginners wanting to explore sculpture in a supportive environment
• Painters and mixed media artists wanting to work in 3D
• Anyone who enjoys texture, experimentation, and hands-on creativit
What You’ll Create
What begins as a recycled bottle gradually transforms into something full of warmth, character, and life.
More than simply making a sculpture, this workshop is an invitation to explore expressive form, intuitive making, and the creative transformation that occurs when ordinary materials are viewed through an artist's eyes.
Throughout the workshop you will discover:
• How to build a strong lightweight armature using recycled materials
• Techniques for shaping expressive animal form
• Ways to create texture, character, and personality through surface treatment
• How to use Powertex Art Supplies to strengthen and harden your sculpture
• Approaches to intuitive making that encourage confidence and creative freedom
• How to see artistic possibilities in simple, everyday materials
Along the way, you may find yourself loosening up creatively, letting go of perfection, trusting the process, and becoming more confident working in three dimensions.
Participants are welcome to bring a small keepsake to incorporate into their sculpture - perhaps a dog tag, collar charm or Christmas bling - adding an extra layer of personal connection to the finished piece.
No two sculptures will ever be the same.
Some emerge playful and cheeky, others gentle and wise, but each one reflects the personality, interpretation, and creative energy of its maker.
