The Embodied Foundations of Yin

Level 1, 30hr Yin Yoga Teacher Training

October 16, 17, 18, 2026

Solar Studio, Glasgow

Deepen your practice, refine your teaching, and learn to hold space with presence.

The Embodied Foundations of Yin is a Level 1, 30hr Yin Yoga Teacher Training for yoga teachers, space holders, and dedicated students who want to explore the deeper layers of Yin Yoga through the body, not just the mind.

Held over three days at Solar Studio in Glasgow, this training offers a grounded foundation in Yin Yoga philosophy, functional anatomy, fascia, meridian theory, nervous system awareness, sequencing, theming, and trauma-informed facilitation.

Yin Yoga is not simply about stretching or stillness. It is a practice of listening. A practice of patience. A practice of meeting the body, mind, and emotional landscape with softness, curiosity, and compassion.

Over the course of this training, you will learn how to guide Yin Yoga classes with confidence, depth, and integrity, while also developing your own relationship with stillness, sensation, silence, and presence.

This training is eligible for 30 hours of Yoga Alliance Continuing Education through YACEP.

What This Training Is About

Yin Yoga is more than a collection of postures.

It is a practice that works with the deeper layers of the body, including fascia, connective tissue, joints, bones, breath, nervous system, and subtle awareness. It also invites us into the emotional and energetic body, where stillness becomes a space for reflection, release, and integration.

This training will give you the tools to teach Yin Yoga in a way that is safe, accessible, trauma-informed, and deeply embodied.

Rather than teaching from performance or rigid alignment, you will learn to guide from a functional approach. This means adapting the pose to the person, respecting skeletal variation, offering meaningful modifications, and creating classes that feel spacious, intentional, and intelligently sequenced.

This Training Is For You If

You are a yoga teacher wanting to add Yin Yoga to your offerings.

You are already teaching Yin and want to deepen your understanding, sequencing, language, and confidence.

What You Will Learn

Yin Yoga Foundations and Philosophy

You will explore the roots, purpose, and philosophy of Yin Yoga, including what makes Yin different from more active, muscular, Yang styles of yoga.

We will look at the three principles of Yin practice:

Find an appropriate edge.
Become still.
Stay for time.

You will learn how Yin affects the physical, mental, emotional, and energetic body, and how to communicate this clearly to students.

Fascia, Connective Tissue, and Functional Anatomy

This training introduces the body through a Yin lens.

You will learn about fascia, connective tissue, joints, bones, compression, tension, and skeletal variation.

Instead of forcing bodies into ideal shapes, you will learn why every body is different and how to guide students toward sensation, function, and inner awareness rather than external appearance.

Yin Yoga Poses and Variations

You will study key Yin Yoga postures, their target areas, variations, props, contraindications, and energetic qualities.

You will learn how to offer modifications for different bodies, levels of experience, injuries, and emotional states.

The focus will be on understanding the intention of each pose, rather than memorizing one fixed version of it.

Meridians, Elements, and Energetic Themes

You will be introduced to the meridian system through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine as a traditional energetic framework.

We will explore the Five Elements and their relationship to Yin Yoga practice:

Water
Wood
Fire
Earth
Metal

You will learn how to weave meridian and elemental themes into your classes in a grounded and accessible way, using them as inspiration for sequencing, emotional tone, reflection, and meditation.

Nervous System Awareness and Trauma-Informed Teaching

Yin Yoga can be deeply regulating, but it can also bring students into contact with emotion, memory, discomfort, or vulnerability.

This training will help you understand the nervous system and the importance of trauma-informed facilitation.

You will learn how to use choice-based language, offer autonomy, respect boundaries, work with silence, and create a practice space that feels safe, steady, and supportive.

Sequencing and Theming Yin Classes

You will learn how to build balanced Yin Yoga classes with clear intention, energetic direction, and emotional depth.

We will explore how to sequence around target areas, meridians, elements, nervous system states, emotional themes, and energetic arcs.

You will also learn how to weave a theme through a class without over-talking or forcing meaning, allowing the practice to remain spacious and student-centered.

The Art of Holding Space

A Yin Yoga facilitator does more than teach poses.

They hold the room.

They guide without controlling. They offer language without filling every silence. They support students without trying to fix their experience.

This training will explore the deeper role of the facilitator, including presence, voice, pacing, silence, nervous system regulation, and the ability to create a space where students feel safe enough to soften inward.

Full Module Breakdown

1. Welcome, Intention, and the Path of Yin

An introduction to the training, the spirit of Yin Yoga, and the deeper intention behind the practice. This module sets the tone for the journey and introduces Yin as a practice of presence, stillness, self-inquiry, and inner listening.

2. What Is Yin Yoga?

A foundational overview of Yin Yoga, including what makes it different from more active styles of yoga. Students learn that Yin is not about stretching or achieving shapes, but about safely stressing the deeper connective tissues while developing patience, awareness, and sensitivity.

3. Yin and Yang Theory

An introduction to the relationship between Yin and Yang, and how these qualities exist within the body, mind, nature, and practice. This module explores balance, contrast, stillness, movement, effort, surrender, activity, and rest.

4. The Three Principles of Yin Yoga

A clear breakdown of the three main principles of Yin practice: finding an appropriate edge, becoming still, and staying for time. This module also explores the facilitator’s role in guiding these principles with care, spaciousness, and respect for each student’s body.

5. The Physical Body in Yin Yoga

An introduction to the tissues targeted in Yin Yoga, including fascia, connective tissue, joints, ligaments, tendons, and bones. Students learn why Yin uses long-held, passive shapes and how time, stillness, and appropriate stress influence the body.

6. Fascia and Connective Tissue

A deeper look at fascia, hydration, glide, tissue adaptation, and why Yin Yoga can support mobility, body awareness, and nervous system regulation. This module gives students a modern anatomical foundation for understanding the physical effects of Yin.

7. Functional Anatomy and Individual Variation

This module introduces the understanding that every body is different. Students learn about skeletal variation, tension, compression, and why poses should be adapted to the person rather than forcing the person into the pose.

8. Target Areas, Pose Families, and Joint Awareness

Students learn how Yin poses are organized by target areas rather than fixed alignment. This includes hips, spine, legs, shoulders, and the importance of understanding what a pose is intended to affect rather than how it is supposed to look.

9. Traditional Chinese Medicine Foundations

An accessible introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine as a traditional energetic framework. Students learn about Qi, meridians, organ networks, Yin and Yang qualities, and how this system can be respectfully woven into Yin Yoga teaching.

10. The Five Elements and Meridian Themes

A meaningful introduction to the Five Elements and their emotional, energetic, seasonal, and thematic qualities. Students learn how Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, and Metal can inspire class themes, sequencing, reflection, and meditation.

11. Meridian Pathways and Yin Pose Families

Students explore how different Yin poses may support or stimulate different meridian lines. This module connects pose families with energetic intention, helping students create more layered and intentional sequences.

12. The Emotional Body and Inner Listening

This module explores how stillness can bring students into contact with emotion, memory, sensation, resistance, and insight. Students learn how Yin can become a practice of emotional awareness, self-compassion, and listening inward.

13. Trauma-Informed Yin and Nervous System Awareness

A foundational module on creating safer, more choice-based Yin Yoga spaces. Students learn about the nervous system, regulation, activation, grounding, consent, autonomy, invitational language, and the importance of not forcing emotional release.

14. Interoception, Mindfulness, and Present-Moment Awareness

This section teaches how Yin Yoga supports interoception, the ability to sense and feel the body from within. It explores how mindfulness, breath, anchors, and body sensation help students return to the present moment.

15. The Facilitator’s Role

A module on what it means to hold space in Yin Yoga. Students learn that the facilitator is not there to perform, fix, or control the experience, but to create conditions for safety, presence, inquiry, and self-trust.

16. Language, Cueing, Silence, and Anchors

Students learn how to use spacious, invitational, non-hierarchical language. This module also explores silence as part of the teaching, and how anchors such as breath, sound, sensation, weight, contact points, and awareness can support students during longer holds.

17. Props, Modifications, and Autonomy

A practical module on using props intelligently and respectfully. Students learn how to offer support without making students feel like they are doing a lesser version of the pose. This section reinforces autonomy, choice, and accessibility.

18. Sequencing Yin Yoga Classes

Students learn how to build safe, balanced, and intentional Yin Yoga sequences. This includes sequencing by target area, element, meridian, nervous system effect, emotional theme, or energetic arc.

19. Theming Yin Yoga Classes

This module teaches students how to weave themes through a Yin class without over-talking or forcing meaning. Students learn how to use elements, emotions, seasons, poetry, philosophy, and lived experience to create classes with depth.

20. Rebounds, Counterposes, and Transitions

A practical module on how to move students between poses safely and spaciously. Students learn the importance of rebounds, neutral shapes, counterposes, and allowing time for integration between postures.

21. Yin Pose Library

A condensed pose library introducing key Yin Yoga shapes, their target areas, variations, props, contraindications, and possible meridian connections. This gives students practical tools they can immediately begin teaching from.

22. Practice Teaching and Integration

Students begin applying what they have learned through short teaching practices, sequencing exercises, cueing practice, and group feedback. This module helps bridge the gap between learning the material and confidently facilitating a Yin class.

23. Closing, Reflection, and Next Steps

A final integration module where students reflect on what they have learned, how their relationship to Yin has changed, and how they may begin weaving Yin Yoga into their teaching, personal practice, or existing offerings.
