“The embodied sustainable OT - overcoming the barriers to a sustainable somatic practice
Event description
Overcoming the Barriers to Being a Sustainable, Embodied OT
with Sarita Sloane, creator of the Embodied OT Program
Event Description:
As OTs and clinicians, we know how powerful body-based, somatic and nervous system-informed approaches can be. But actually bringing these tools into our clinical work — and into our own lives — can feel complex, overwhelming, or even out of reach.
In this free 60-minute masterclass, Sarita Sloane (Occupational Therapist, Yoga Therapist, and creator of the Embodied OT Program) will guide you through the 4 key barriers many OTs face when trying to integrate somatic practices — and how to overcome them to create a practice thats sustainable and doesn't cost our own nervous system- without burning out.
We’ll explore:
🌀 Barrier 1: Skills & Confidence
Not feeling competent or trained enough to guide somatic or regulation-based interventions — and how experiential learning and embodied practice builds deep confidence over time.
🌀 Barrier 2: “Is This in Scope?”
The lingering stigma that somatic or body-based approaches are too “fluffy” or outside traditional OT — when in fact, they’re well supported by emerging evidence in neuroscience, trauma research, and occupational engagement. predominantly bio-medical systems and practice has not caught up with the science and evidence.
🌀 Barrier 3: Client Buy-In
Struggling to explain the benefits clearly or get clients engaged — and how to translate theory into simple language rooted in your own lived experience and the client’s goals.
🌀 Barrier 4: Real-Life Integration
Feeling unsure how to help clients embed these tools beyond the clinic — and how OTs are uniquely positioned to extend body-based interventions into daily life, roles, relationships, and routines.
This session is a chance to reset your vision, reconnect with your passion, and explore a way of practising that feels clinically grounded, personally sustainable, and nervous system-friendly.
✨ You’ll also learn more about the upcoming Embodied OT Program, starting 17th September, with time for Q&A and reflection.
