Event description

Three key things you will get out of this workshop:

  1. Understanding of how somatic (body-based) healing works and how to do it safely and effectively.
  2. Understanding of the latest neuroscience of trauma processing.
  3. Practical tools to bring it all together and apply in your life and/or practice.

Introduction

For decades, healing trauma was all about the head, and we have much to thank the traditional “talk therapy” for.

More recently, the focus shifted to the body, and we have been blessed to have so many somatic (body-based) healing modalities available. Like in a “healing supermarket”, we can pick all sorts of breathwork, sound healing, immersions, hot and cold exposure, movement-based modalities, anger work/primal therapy, plant medicine and so on.

But this diversity hasn’t come without its challenges. We’ve learned (some the hard way) that without some fundamental knowledge of how it actually works, it is all too easy to get lost in the maze. At best, we can find ourselves jumping from workshop to workshop without much impact on our daily lives, bypassing the hard bits. And in some cases, we can let the genie out of the bottle and re-surface our traumas without adequate capacity, support, knowledge and resources to deal with them.

What’s even more exciting, is that now we’re at the new frontier of understanding and processing trauma. We’re learning, as Dr Lisa Feldman put it, that while the body is the scorecard, it is the brain that actually keeps the score. Turns out we need both the body AND the mind to heal safely and effectively.

Back due to popular demand and expanded, this hands-on intensive and interactive workshop packs years of practical hands-on somatic processing experience supported by the latest neuroscience, including the “prediction neurobiology” which sheds new light on the communication between the body and brain.

*LIMITED TICKETS*

This workshop is for:

  • People who have been doing “the work” for a while, but may be feeling lost, stuck, addicted to, traumatised or re-traumatised by it, or struggling to get results, integrate and embody.
  • People who are starting to dabble into the somatic work and would like to know how to navigate it safely and effectively.
  • Mental health and somatic practitioners who would like to deepen their knowledge and healing impact.
  • People who would like to be better informed and resourced to get the most out of their trauma healing work.

Packed with practical knowledge and ready-to-use tools, it will cover:

  • Understanding of how predictions run by the brain affect behaviour and body state (including nervous system settings).
  • Understanding of the brain’s natural update mechanism, and how we can harness it to process trauma.
  • Deeper insight into the nervous system, psychosomatic capacity, emotions, trauma and shadow work.
  • How to maximise the benefits, minimise the risks and avoid traps of common somatic healing approaches, how to process emotions and create safety resource within your own body, and how to integrate and embody the experiences.
  • A “trauma iceberg” framework which can be used as a blueprint to bring it all together.
  • How to develop your own “roadmap” to map where you are now, reflect on where you’re headed (exploring the connection between trauma and purpose) and explore how you can get there, informed by the new insights from the workshop.

Plus, you will get to meet, connect with and learn from like-minded people.

A handout with key points, tools and resources will be provided.

What to bring

  • Water bottle;
  • Journal or notepad;
  • Comfortable clothes suitable for moving around;
  • An additional layer or two to use if you get cold; and
  • Anything you need for additional comfort (cushions, blankets etc).

About the facilitators

Sergey Volotovskiy

Sergey was born in Siberia and has been calling Perth, Western Australia (the land of Whadjuk Noongar people) home for almost 20 years. He is a father, psychosomatic practitioner, an outdoor adventurer, a surfer, a martial artist and Corporate and community leader - a hybrid in many ways. He weaves almost 20 years of corporate facilitation, leadership and public speaking experience and degrees in engineering, sustainability and linguistics with years of hands-on embodied processing, breathwork, psychosomatic and shamanic studies and practices.

He hasn’t got it all figured out – he is as much on the journey as the next person. He’s made plenty of mistakes in his own healing, lived through all sorts of coping mechanisms for his traumas, and (yes) still has shadows and unintegrated parts. Yet through his peculiar blend of experiences, practices and studies, he has developed an unwavering passion and unique and pragmatic approach to helping people deepen their connections to themselves, their purpose, their families, communities and Nature.

Dr Tony Fitzgerald

Tony was awarded his PhD in Medical Physics in 1997. For the past 25+ years he has been working as an innovation scientist translating emerging science discoveries into valuable medical applications in Universities and Hospitals in Cambridge, London, Leeds, Brisbane and Perth. In that time he has authored dozens of scientific papers and developed 4 patents.

He is now a proud and loving father of 2 gorgeous kids in Perth, with the mission to share the paradigm-shifting neuroscience of how our brain makes predictions to help professionals make a difference in mental well-being and human flourishing.

Health disclaimer and liability release

The workshop will involve practices that require some movement. If you have any current physical injuries, please discuss with us first.

Although this workshop does not include deep breathwork, it will have elements of emotional activation, processing and integration, as well as up- and down-regulation breathing exercises. While all participation is invited but not compulsory, and you can choose to just observe at any time, some emotional triggering may be experienced. With that in mind, this workshop may not be suitable for people with current acute mental, cardiovascular, nervous system or respiratory issues. Some exercises may need to be modified for pregnancy. Please discuss with your doctor and ourselves before the workshop if in doubt.

At the time of this event, COVID-19 might be present in the community. You acknowledge there is inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 and other respiratory infections during this event, and voluntary assume all risks related to this exposure.
