Event description

F Factor events are exclusive to members. Not a member yet? Join here or here.

It’s our final event for the year and we’re in a mood to celebrate! As a community, we are coming out of 2021 stronger, more resilient and more connected than when we went in.

Despite the damned corona-coaster and the heightened challenges of everyday life, we’re all getting through this (even if we often don’t give ourselves the credit we deserve) and we’re supporting each other now more than ever.

So, we’re wrapping the year up in style…... !

On the agenda: first off, we’re ditching the zoom-doom and visiting Gather Town, with a fun F Factor-styled interior set designed by our very own resident girl-geek, Susan Pan. Hang out at the virtual bar, chat on the sofas or stop by the Google booth and grab some el-Goog’ swag while chatting with women-of-Google-engineering and find out what Googler life’s really like. Unlock giveaways hidden around the event space, from books to coaching sessions, headshot sessions, to tech or wellbeing app subscriptions. Oh and our sponsor is shouting brunch too, so grab an Uber Eats voucher on arrival and order some treats to keep your energy up for the rest of the event.

There’s inspiration, celebration and a bit of fun thrown in for good measure. Everything you’ve come to know and love from F Factor events but amped up for a much needed lift we could all do with!

Our special guest speaker is Queensland’s incredible AI Hub CEO, Dr Sue Keay who will be opening the event - talking robots, AI and cyber-physical systems and sharing her journey from Research Scientist to becoming one of Australia’s most influential people in tech.

Sue will then be joined on the virtual stage by Senior Engineering Leader, Technologist and Author, Isabel Nyo and the pioneer of authentic Data Science and Computational Science education, Dr Linda McIver, for a fun and lively chat and Q&A.

And to wrap the event up, we’re hosting an optional mentor/mentee get together for the last 30 mins. Existing and prior Help-A-Girl-Out mentors and mentees can catch up and newb's welcome!

Come for as long as you can, stay for as long as you like. Cameras on or off, we don’t care as long as you’re there.

*Watch this space for an update of epic give-aways.…

    MEET OUR SPECIAL GUESTS:

Dr Sue Keay - CEO of Queensland AI Hub

    Twitter | LinkedIn

Sue set-up the world’s first robotic vision research centre and led the development of Australia's first robotics roadmap. She founded and now Chairs the Board of Robotics Australia Group and serves on the Board of Women in Robotics, also representing Australia in the International Alliance of Robotics Associations.

Sue currently has an awesome job as CEO of Queensland AI Hub where she promotes the talet and technologies we are currently developing in AI and encourages organisations to adopt AI (before it’s too late). Before that, she led cyber-physical systems research for CSIRO's Data61 where her team worked with “legged” robots (that look and move like spiders..!)

Watch a video about her work here.

Isabel Nyo - Technologist, Senior Engineer, Author

    Twitter | LinkedIn

Isabel is an accomplished technology leader with a passion for knowledge sharing and continuous learning. She is currently a senior engineering leader at Atlassian, where her role is to enable engineering managers to lead high performing teams and have fun while doing so. She is the author of The Engineering Manager’s How-to Guide, Nail That Interview, The Accidental Remote Manager and Career Guide for Software Developers. If you’ve ever seen Isabel speak, you’ll know she’s a big fan of memes…!

Dr Linda McIver - Founder of the Australian Data Science Education Institute, Author

    Twitter | LinkedIn

Linda sees Data Science as a superpower. She recently published her book  Raising Heretics: Teaching Kids to Change the World and is passionate about motivating all students to become technologically and data literate. Linda is an inspiring keynote speaker who has appeared on the ABC’s panel program Q&A and regularly delivers engaging Professional Development for Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Educators across all disciplines. She was nominated one of the inaugural Superstars of STEM in 2017.

While Linda loves the classroom, it was rapidly becoming clear that teachers in the Australian School system were keen to embrace Data Science, but that there was a serious lack of resources to support that. That’s why Linda created the Australian Data Science Education Institute – to support Data Science in education.
