The Fall - short film screening
Event description
Ticket price includes surprise merchandise item.
The Fall is an apocalyptic action short film that juxtaposes FNQ's natural beauty with a grim, dystopian future brought to life through clever set design and compelling special effects. It serves as a sensationalised commentary on colonialism, environmental destruction, and climate change within an Australian context.
At the heart of the story is Celeste, whose journey explores the complex interplay between her community’s deep connection to the land and the conflicting interests of environmental activists, government agencies, and exploitative developers. The plot weaves a tale of unexpected alliances formed in the face of a shared adversary. As Australia teeters on the brink of civil war, Celeste faces a critical choice: comply with the evil dictator or face an untimely death...
Amidst the backdrop of adversity, The Fall shines a light on the enduring spirit of humanity. It celebrates the courage and wisdom of a young woman who rises above the harshness of her world, embodying love and intelligence that triumph over cruelty and prejudice. The film highlights the human consequences of failing to act on climate change and challenges society to examine itself, listen to underrepresented voices, and foster improved communication around controversial issues. Join us for a screening of The Fall and witness a powerful narrative that demands reflection and action.
Production of the film was made possible with the assistance of a Cairns Regional Council Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grant. This event is supported by an Arts and Cultural grant and Cairns and Far North Environment Centre (CAFNEC).
