Event description

The Francis Wolves return to ISAS to deliver another all ages* matinee show. It’s their first Brisbane show of the year and to celebrate will be bringing along Samford Valley darlings ‘The Seven of Ska’ to get the party started. Tickets will be $20 online and $22 on the door. Be sure to get in early and don't miss out! Doors at 2:30pm.

* Minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times.

Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, The Francis Wolves deliver a sound that Triple J’s Dom Alessio refers to as ‘the soundtrack to big wave surfing…in hell’. An instrumental funk juggernaut that brings together a melting pot of genres. It’s a fuzzed out wall-of-sound with ferocious horns and a brooding rhythm section. There’s ominous organ and infectious congas. It’s a hot mess. A funky hot mess.

Their most recent second album, recorded in Brisbane and mastered in Hamburg, Germany by Fabian Tormin (Biffy Clyro, The Kills, Kurt Vile, Lee Ranaldo) delves deeper into more dark and ominous territory than their debut managed. It’s a more mature offering from the Francis Wolves pulling no punches musically.

Defenders of tradition, protectors of groove, and rocksteady in their quest for the ultimate ska dance party, The Seven of Ska continue the tradition of combining ska with other influences like soul and jazz to give a new, exciting sound using a classic lineup.

Inspired by reggae, rocksteady and ska and bands like The Skatalites,  our music draws influences from soul, rock & roll, roots reggae, a touch of jazz, Latin and funk all held together with the grooves of ska. We have a lineup of vocals, four horns (trumpet, trombone, tenor & baritone sax) and a rhythm section of guitar, bass and drums.
