    Event description

The Seattle Metals Guild is honored to host friends and members in a series of monthly presentations from experts in our field.

Join us for an online presentation of an exciting new apprenticeship program, with artist, author, and guild member Nanz Aalund.

In addition to literally writing the book on professional apprenticeships, Nanz has recently collaborated with members of The MJSA Education Foundation to create an exciting new program. Designed to revive what was once a vital part of the jewelry industry's recruiting and training regimen, the Mentor & Apprenticeship Program allows businesses to transfer knowledge while also showing aspiring workers a recognizable career path. This program is the nation's first National Standard for Goldsmithing! Come learn more about this new opportunity to earn money, certification, and empowerment while developing your skills as a master craftsperson.

Nanz Aalund taught jewelry and metals classes at the University of Washington and at the Art Institute in Seattle from 2000 to 2005. Nanz was awarded the "Artist in Residence" at UW School of Art/Metals in 2005. She served as a fine jewelry designer for Nordstrom, Rudolf Erdel, and Tiffany & Co., as a marketing consultant for Neiman Marcus, and as the associate editor for Art Jewelry Magazine. Some of Aalund's many professional jewelry design awards include: 2 of each of these awards: Saul Bell Award, Gemmy Award, Platinum Guild International Award, and DeBeers Diamond’s Today Award, as well as a single AGTA Spectrum Award in 2001, and most recently, the 2023 Spotlight Award from the Cultured Pearl Association of America.

Nanz is the author of over 3 dozen jewelry articles published in jewelry trade journals since 1993. She has authored two books: “Masters Gold” published by Lark Books in 2009, and the AM&P Excel Award winning “A Jeweler’s Guide to Apprenticeships” published by MJSA press in 2017.

Online Zoom Webinar link to be provided via email as the date approaches.
