The Future of Rail in the Great Southern
Description
The need for a safe and efficient transport infrastructure network for Rural WA has never been greater. In January 2025 the State Government announced its intention to enter negotiations with Brookfield/Arc to take back the rail network from the lease agreement. With that, the Country-Net Rail Alliance has been established to encourage dialogue with regional communities on what is important to them and to seek their thoughts, views and ideas.
This event will host Peter Newman as a keynote speaker to talk about what is important to you. The aims of the event are to:
Support the State Government's buyout of the WA freight rail network.
Discuss what a safe and efficient rail freight transport network benefiting city and rural communities would look like.
Reduce the road maintenance burden on Local Government, rate payers and taxpayers.
Decrease road trauma.
Reduce environmental impact.
Encourage passenger rail and tourism opportunities.
Boost rural towns (economy, jobs) through economic diversification.
We want to hear from you!
See you there :)
