Event description

'The Future of Work in Tasmania' Roundtable will be hosted by Tasmanian Leaders in collaboration with the UTAS Tasmanian Policy Exchange to gather insights on medium-term recovery challenges related to the impacts on the future of work in Tasmania. Professor Richard Eccleston and Dr Lachlan Johnson will share findings from the “COVID-19 and the Future of Work in Tasmania”, developed in collaboration with Tasmanian Leaders. Given Tasmania will be ‘reopening’ on December 15th the focus of the discussion will be on the longer-term implications of the pandemic in Tasmania. Breakout groups will be used to ask:

  • How is employment changing in Tasmania as the economy reopens? Are digital skills and infrastructure more important in post-pandemic employment? Do Tasmanian workers have the skills to make this transition?
  • How severe are current skills shortages? Are they merely transitory or are they likely to be longer lasting? and what mix of training and migration policies are required to address skills shortages?
  • The medium-term economic outlook for Tasmania is strong, but are there cohorts or workers, industries or regions that have not benefited from the recovery? And how can we ensure that benefits of economic and population growth in Tasmania are shared equally among diverse communities?
