The Future We Want: Conversations with Young Indigenous Leaders
Event description
In National Reconciliation Week, join the UNAA Young Professionals Queensland on May 30th for our first online event! Together, we will be informed, inspired, and engaged by young community leaders as we discuss a way forward for indigenous peoples. By supporting the discussion on Indigenous health, community activism, and climate futures, we hope to be a strong ally in working towards a better future for all Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and through that, a better future for everyone.
During this time of social, economic and environmental upheaval, it is imperative we continue to ground ourselves in what’s truly important, a personal connection with others and the issues that bring us together. Right now we are looking to our young people for leadership, inspiration and hope. Our four speakers are champions for change in their respective areas, and will be leading us through current issues and their plans for the future in a conversation driven by you. Our fantastic speakers are:
- Ruby Wharton: Brisbane Invasion Day rally organiser and member of Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance; based in Koombumerri, on Yuggera and Turrbal lands
- Tamika Sadler: Brisbane SEED Youth Indigenous Climate Network (SEED) Coordinator; based on Yuggera and Yugambeh lands
- Robati Harrison: Brisbane based Coordinator for Pacific Climate Warrior (PCW); based on Yuggera and Yugambeh lands
- Ami Diop: Young professional working in the Indigenous health sector (Grassroots and academic). Ami is of Torres Strait Island and Senegalese descent and is based on Yuggera and Turrbal lands (Brisbane)

EVENT TECHNICALITIES:
This event is occurring online via the Zoom video-teleconferencing software. You will be emailed Zoom dial-in details upon successful registration. You do not need a Zoom account to listen in, however we recommend you to create a free Zoom account so that you can automatically access the meeting hyperlink/avoid any minor tech, wifi or device issues. We ask attendees to dial-in at least 5 minutes before 5PM AEST. The Host will admit you in through the online waiting room.
If you have any questions for our panelists, there will be a dedicated time in the event to ask them. If you wish to reach out to any of the panelists after the event, the panelists will indicate what their best method of communication is. Please understand if our panelists wish to respect their privacy and emphasize their boundaries with communication.
