The Gadflys
Description
Anyone who has spent time in the nation’s capital will know that Canberra boasts the highest concentration of magpies in the known universe. Little wonder that such a group of musical magpies should hale from the leafy suburbs of Duckburg. The Moriarty brothers’ have been writing and performing together for more than forty years.
Unbound by genre and restrictive labels, their music boasts Swing and Klesmer influences and lurches from blues-tinged nightclub numbers to heart felt ballads delivered with Poguesish punch. Clarinet, trumpet, double bass and guitar. Honest harmonies and sinful, sinuous melodies. With long time collaborators Elmo Reed and Pete Kelly, Phil and Mick Moriarty deliver the goods and then some!
“Let’s not understate the talent of this group. The Gadflys’ particular blend of British beat, jazz, skiffle, country and folk is hugely entertaining.” BRUCE ELDER, SMH
