The Global Fight for Trans Justice

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

All over the world trans people's freedom, justice, and equality are under attack from a well-coordinated group of anti-trans lobbyists.

Whether it is campaigns to stop the bans on gender-affirming care, protecting trans people from conversion practices, or defending trans kids at school, trans people and our allies are rising up to protect our communities and win a future where all of us are safe, celebrated, and free.

Join this webinar to hear about the attacks on trans lives in the UK, US, Canada, and so-called Australia. Learn about the challenges, the victories, and most importantly how we can fight back here at home.

This is a free webinar. You will receive the zoom link after you register.
There will be a Q&A at the end of the session that you will be able to submit questions for on the call.

Malita headshot

Malita Picasso (she/her)
American Civil Liberties Union

Malita is a staff attorney at the ACLU LGBT & HIV Project where she advocates on behalf of transgender and nonbinary people through litigation in both state and federal court throughout the United States. Her cases implicate a wide-range of issues impacting transgender people including their access accurate identity document, to gender-affirming health care, and to restroom that aligns with their gender identity. Prior to becoming a staff attorney, Malita completed a two-year Skadden legal fellowship, which focused on advancing the rights of transgender elders. She has also contributed to the work of the ACLU outside of the LGBT & HIV context, and was significantly involved in efforts to seek the release of medically vulnerable people from ICE detention centers in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. She has spent over a decade working in various capacities in the social justice legal field and fighting for the rights of trans and nonbinary people, immigrant populations, communities of color, and people otherwise impacted by poverty. When she is not working, she spends her time loving being trans, adoring her dog, hiking in and exploring the national parks, or cooking unnecessarily delicious meals.
