The Great Marbled Egg Event
Event description
Don't waste your precious eggs decorating for Easter this year! Join us instead for a quick introduction to water marbling as you decorate six papier-mâché eggs in the colors of your choice. Choose from 7 one-hour sessions - April 12 (11am, Noon, 2pm, 3pm, or 4pm) and April 15 (6:30pm and 7:30pm).
Paper marbling is an ancient technique of floating ink or paint on water or another bath and then capturing the results on paper or fabric. The concept dates back to the 12th century in Japan with Suminagashi. However, the techniques we'll be using align more closely to Ebru, a Turkish marbling artform that originated in the 16th century.
This fast and fun hour-long session will introduce you to the basics of water marbling. You'll then receive six pre-prepared papier-mâché eggs. For each egg, you'll choose your colors, drop them onto the marbling bath, and swirl them into gorgeous patterns to dip your egg in. Design a coordinated set or make each egg unique. **The eggs may not be dry enough to take home that day. If that's the case, participants can arrange a pickup time or have their paper shipped for an additional fee.
This workshop is intended for individual participants ages 13+. Participants between the ages of 5 and 13 may attend with an adult partner to decorate a shared set of eggs. They do not need a separate ticket.
While our goal will be to keep the paint on the bath and the eggs, it can still get messy. Please wear an apron or clothes you don't mind "decorating."
ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE A WAIVER ON FILE. You can print one to complete in advance or we will have hard copies available on site. Please also refer to our parking and accessibility information.
