The high prevalence of trauma exposure and mental health conditions among adults experiencing homelessness is well established in Australia and internationally. In this webinar, Dr Taylor will explore the intersection of trauma and homelessness and discuss evidence-based solutions.
By the end of this webinar, you will be able to (1) define homelessness and outline its causes, (2) recall statistics about trauma exposure among people experiencing homelessness in Australia, (3) explain how trauma exposure and mental health difficulties can maintain long-term homelessness, and (4) describe how best to support individuals with experience of trauma and homelessness.
About the Speaker
Dr Kathryn Taylor is a practicing Clinical Psychologist with roles in both the public and private sectors. In addition to her position with NSW Health in Community Mental Health, Dr Taylor is a partner of Mission Australia, providing clinical psychology services through Government funding. Dr Taylor is a Member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association and Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) College of Clinical Psychologists. She was the inaugural Convener of the APS Interest Group on Psychology and Homelessness and currently holds the position of Treasurer. Dr Taylor has a PhD in Health Sciences (Public Health) from Swinburne University and a Doctor of Clinical Psychology degree from The University of Sydney. Her research focus is trauma experience and mental health among adults experiencing homelessness. Her research is published in international journals, and in 2023, Dr Taylor won the APS College of Community Psychologists Robin Winkler Award for Applied Community Psychology Research. www.linkedin.com/in/dr-kathryn-taylor
