World class Jazz & Blues in an intimate setting.

Come along to The Presynct’s jazz night hosted by Robyn Brown.
Robyn is among the most respected jazz singers in Queensland today.  

Inspired by the early jazz and blues greats and with a love of the passion in gospel and blues music, “A gifted vocalist of sultriness and style who plays off the band sharing a common joy of improvisation”. 

Each month, Robyn brings to us a night of magical jazz featuring memorable jazz musicians from her cohort.

Bentley & Spencer   (David Bentley with Mark Spencer)

Singer/songwriter/musician, David Bentley brings a bouilliabaise of smokin' jazz and cool blues to ‘The Jazz Sessions’, at Nambour on Thursday 17th October.

The author of the still-smouldering rock classic, In A Broken Dream, David will team with tenor sax master Mark Spencer to deliver an intimate evening of original compositions, uber cool jazz plus random insights into the world and everything.

Among the songs you will hear is his laidback take on In Broken Dream, the chart topping Python Lee Jackson track. 
Now a certified rock classic, the original recording rose to number three in the British charts, later turning up on the soundtrack of films and documentaries, including acclaimed art house movie Breaking The Waves and the recent Baywatch film.

The most recent version of the song is the globally successful remix by Harlem rapper Rocky A$ap, retitled Every Day. 

Artists who have recorded David’s compositions include Rod Stewart (who also sang on the original Python Lee Jackson recording) Jimmy Barnes, Simon Le Bon (of Duran Duran), Margret RoadKnight, Joe Bonabasa, Kathryn Williams, Hannah Jones, Becky Bond and many more.

David's interests span a wide spectrum. His trio backed jazz greats Milt Jackson and Phil Woods during the heady days of The Cellar Club in Brisbane. His jazz/blues-oriented band held a residency at Brisbane's Port Office Hotel for eight tumultous years. Bentley’s Blues Review (with the late Wiley Reed on vocals) pumped up the crowds at the East Coast Blues & Roots Festival several years running.

His 2006 album, ‘Last Man Standing’ albums was play listed on Radio National and also selected for inclusion on the network’s annual release of excellent but hard-to-find recordings.

He has since recorded two critically acclaimed jazz trio recordings: DB3:The Leopard Lodge Sessions and DB3:The Lake Sessions. Recent releases include an album of originals titled ‘Every Day Songs’ (available www.davidbentleymusic.com.au). A retrospectve album, selected from a decade of live recordings at Brisbane Jazz Cub is due soon.

At The Presynct, David will be joined by tenor sax master Mark Spencer, a musician as renowned for his lyrical approach to jazz improvisation as for his fiery excursions into funk.
Bentley & Spencer deliver music that draws on a wide range of influences, from sophisticated jazz to New Orleans street music: a fusion of jazz standards, hip grooves and original material.

There is no other food available from the venue, but you are welcome to purchase dinner elsewhere and bring it in to eat in the venue.
