The Joy of Birds in your Garden and How to Attract Them
Event description
Birds are all around us … noisy and colourful, or tiny and cryptic, their fascinating antics can amuse us and awaken wonder and a deep sense of connection.
Many gardens only attract large and boisterous birds, but with some easy changes, yours could become a haven for the smaller ones as well.
Find out about some of the stunning birds in the Randwick Council area, which species need help, and how we can provide for them in our own gardens.
Randwick has pockets rich in bird species, so there’s a fabulous opportunity to reconnect them, enabling birds to return to areas where they once thrived.
Will your garden become one that makes a difference?
By highlighting some of our beautiful local plants and other habitat features you could add, with links for ongoing learning, you will have lots of resources to begin.
Presented by Renée Ferster Levy, ecologist and educator, who is passionate about wildlife and creating habitat to improve biodiversity.
Just for Fun!
Jot down the first three bird species you think of, commonly seen around your home. Then for a couple of days, try to spend some time quietly watching and listening, especially early in the morning, then jot down three extra species you may have noticed.
Have a look at what they are doing and how they are using your space.
This event is part of Randwick Council's Eco Living Festival 2021 - four weeks of workshops, talks, tours and movies for the whole family!
