    Event description

Long ago, a nature-loving magician wove a protective spell over the land, now known as Dragon's Lair. This veil safeguards the trees and wildlife, creating a haven untouched by the ever-growing suburbs.

The property is nestled within a protected native forest of cabbage palms, swamp mahoganies, and melaleucas on the Quondong creek, Berkeley Vale. A diverse mix of native and ornamental trees planted by the original owners 70 years ago creates a fascinating biodiversity worthy of a botanical garden.

After two years of shaping the land to divert stormwater, we're ready to finish our new pond – a water source for the land and additional habitat for nearby wildlife. We will have a stomping party and learn how to naturally line a pond to create a watertight seal.

The blitz will be focused on some of the aspects of maintenance and terraforming. We will learn how to maintain a banana swale, refresh a spent hugelkulture veggie garden, use weeds as green manure, build in-situ compost, prune trees and shrubs.

Our land is also home to a variety of domesticated animals: 5 chickens, a super-friendly dog, and a vibrant fishpond with natural filtration (including a blind goldfish enjoying its own crystal palace!). We'll share tips on maintaining the chicken coop and preparing it for winter.

Whether you're a seasoned permie or just starting out, there are tasks and learning opportunities for everyone.

Lunch and tea will be provided and it will be gluten-free and vegetarian. If you have any other dietary requirements please let us know and we will try and meet your needs.

The Permablitz will start at 9am and end with lunch at 2pm. For those who would like to stay around, we’ll be having a lazy afternoon in the garden, celebrating the hard work of the morning.
