We continue to celebrate the 2021 global International Women’s Day theme #WomenLead.
The 2021 global International Women’s Day theme is #WomenLead. Join UN Women Australia in capital cities across Australia for a special screening of Ili Baré’s compelling documentary film, The Leadership, to continue this essential conversation about how to grow women’s representation as leaders in all facets of life – with a spotlight on women in STEM.
This Adelaide film screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Dr Eva Balan-Vnuk (Executive Director, ICT and Digital Government, Department of Premier and Cabinet South Australia) and Associate Professor Tina Du (UniSA STEM, University of South Australia). The discussion will be moderated by Janelle Weissman (Executive Director, UN Women Australia). Each will share their deep knowledge and lived experience of the topics raised in the film. You won’t want to miss this important conversation exploring the systemic changes necessary to facilitate participation and leadership of diverse women in STEM and other male-dominated industries.
100% of ticket revenue will be donated to UN Women Australia thanks to the support of Good Pitch Australia, the Documentary Australia Foundation and the Shark Island Institute.

About the film
The world is crying out for a new model of leadership, but what is it? One woman thinks she has the answer. Australian CEO and leadership expert, Fabian Dattner, leads an international group of 76 female scientists on an Antarctic voyage designed to transform them "into the sort of leaders they want to be." Her hope is that once these women are primed to lead in science, they will be able to make meaningful change around the world.
But on board, as the women's deeply personal stories of workplace gender biases and more are revealed, Dattner's own leadership style and philosophy is severely tested. Set against the planet’s last untouched wilderness, The Leadership delivers an unexpected and original reflection on what it takes to be a good leader, while unearthing the systemic obstacles to women’s advancement in science and beyond.
