Hailing from the port of Fremantle, The Lost Quays are WA's premier sea shanty band. Formed in 2015, the group are WA festival favourites, with a UK and Europe tour in 2018, performances at the Australian Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart in 2019 & 2023, and at Canberra's National Folk Festival in 2024. The Lost Quays had sold out shows ‘Under the Whale’ in the WA Museum Boola Bardip as part of Perth’s Fringe Festival in 2025.
With four CDs to their credit, the group is known for their strong harmonies, humour and engaging performances, bringing to life their maritime songs. The Lost Quays relish a good connection with their audience and host a popular monthly “Shanty Club” at Clancy’s in Fremantle.
Their repertoire includes many shanty standards and more reflective ‘below decks’ songs, plus originals focussing on the days of sail around the coast of Western Australia and beyond. They sing both a cappella and with accompaniment from guitar, mandolin, concertina and bodhrán. And live performances always provide interesting tales of maritime history and musical whimsy. Welcome on board!
