'The Lovely Bones', presented by Pulteney Grammar School Year 12 Drama
Event description
The Pulteney 2024 Year 12 Drama class is proud to present The Lovely Bones.
THE STORY
Out of unspeakable tragedy, this is a tale filled with hope, humour, suspense, and even joy. It is a coming of age story… with a supernatural twist. It is a play about yearning to make a connection; to say the things left unsaid.
Susie Salmon is a typical 16 year old, with the typical teenager preoccupations. There’s just one small difference: Susie is no longer alive.
From beyond the grave, she now observes her grieving family and community. Some are obsessed with seeking justice; others look to escape the unbearable pain by forging a new life; and some discover the hormone-fuelled pangs of growing up, embarking of a journey that Susie herself never had the chance to take.
From her special place in Heaven, Susie is trying to find a way to help.
The play is a visceral performance text, both sparse and dense, that also surprises with its humour and verve. But ultimately, this play is a piece about the power of love. Our audience will be transported to 1970s Australia, following a community as they navigate life without one of their own, and how we can find light and hope in even the darkest of times.
The 2024 Pulteney Year 12 Drama production is ‘The Lovely Bones’, written by Alice Sebold and adapted for the stage by Bryony Lavery.
