The Magic of Folklore: Witches and Hags
Event description
The second installment of The Magic of Folklore Series. In this class we will look at the role of the witch in Ozark folklore as well as how these figures have been used as both entertainment and forms of persecution in hillfolk society. The witch was traditionally seen as both a supernatural figure as well as a real world threat. We will explore the misconceptions surrounding the witch in Ozark society and look at how healers have traditionally straddled the line between what magic was acceptable by the culture and what was considered work of the hag.
Recordings will be emailed to all ticket holders after the event.
