The Majlis

The Majlis is a welcoming youth drop-in space at Lakemba Mosque, open every Wednesday and Thursday from 3pm–6pm for young people aged 12–24.

Created as part of the Connect IRL initiative, The Majlis gives young people a place to connect in real life, build friendships and have somewhere they can simply belong after school.

Unlike a structured program, there is no set curriculum and no pressure to participate in particular activities. Young people can drop in, hang out with friends, play games, study, get creative, join conversations and activities, or simply relax and unwind.

The space is shaped by young people themselves, with opportunities to suggest activities, lead initiatives, volunteer, develop new skills and contribute to the community. Trained youth mentors are also available to support young people and help maintain a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment.

Whether you come for an hour or stay for the afternoon, The Majlis is a space to connect, create, contribute and belong.
