The Martha Spencer Duo
Description
Spend a Sunday afternoon with Appalachian roots music, played by two people who grew up in it. Martha Spencer and Lucas Pasley make up this duo, and between them they cover banjo, fiddle, guitar, and bass.
Martha grew up in the mountains of southwestern Virginia and has spent years playing traditional mountain music on stages across the U.S., Europe, and Australia. She sings, writes her own songs, and moves between instruments through a set the way someone does when they've been playing this music their whole life.
Multi-instrumentalist Lucas Pasley joins Martha harmonies and the two of them trade lead and stories through a mix of old-time, folk, bluegrass, and original songs. It's a small-room show: just two musicians, some history, and the songs that came out of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door general admission; $15 for students/low-income individuals. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available here, or if the show is not sold out, you may purchase your tickets at the door before the show.
Doors open 30 minutes before show time. We accept cash or Venmo only at the door.
The Back Room is an all-ages, BYOB (for those 21+) space, dedicated to (mostly) acoustic music of all kinds. You are welcome to bring your own food and beverages. The venue is ADA accessible. If you need more information or have any questions, please call us: #510-381-1997.
