The Nature of the Hidden World – A Mega Story exhibition opening
Event description
On a cold winter’s day in July1891, Irishman Thomas Molan was digging at the back of his cottage in Gawler, near the old ford over the South Para River. His shovel struck something strange, it looked like an old bone. He moved the dirt away then ran to the Gawler Institute where Mr Walter Howchin was lecturing to a group on the new sciences of Geology and Palaeontology. Molan had discovered the rare skeleton of a giant Diprotodon part of Australia’s extinct megafauna. Could there be a connection between Aboriginal beliefs regarding The Dreaming and understanding the complex relationship between changes in climate and species extinction. What can a shared understanding of Country and science and history tell us? Come and see.
