The Nervous System at Work - 4-Week Course with Henny Flynn & Grace Loveday
Description
This 4-week course is all about getting to know your own nervous system - so you can be informed by it, rather than driven by it.
So much of what we do, feel and react to each day comes from a nervous system working unseen in the background, and most of us were never taught how to notice it, let alone work with it.
Over these four weeks, we'll start to notice these responses differently.
You'll learn how to recognise what your nervous system is telling you; seeing what might be shaping those signals. You'll begin to decipher automatic reactions and use that information to respond with more choice.
Each session builds on the last, and each one leaves you with practices to take away and use - with mindfulness techniques, journaling prompts and reflective notes to keep you going between sessions.
We all take our nervous systems to work, and it's often there that the demands, personalities and environments around us are hardest to navigate - so that's where we'll focus. But everything we cover here is just as relevant across the whole of life, including the parts that feel good.
We'll also take some time to explore how our nervous system responds when life feels joyful too - seeing how glimmers can be part of what restores us.
Session 1 — The science and theory plus the art of noticing
A grounded exploration of polyvagal theory — the vagus nerve, ventral vagal, fight/flight, dorsal vagal — alongside space to reflect and understand what activates you, at work and elsewhere.
Session 2 — The polyvagal ladder
Getting to know the polyvagal ladder as a way of locating where you are in any given moment, with a closer look at the states we can sometimes misread in ourselves and others — and where self-compassion comes in.
Session 3 — Your ventral vagal anchors
Your ‘who, what, where, when and why’ - understanding what brings you back to safety and calm, to help you find your glimmers and build your own practical map of nervous system support.
Session 4 — Reflection and next steps
Time to integrate everything that's surfaced across the course, a chance to reflect on what's shifted, recognising how your self-awareness has changed your experience. And a clear look at where you might go from here.
