The Odyssey 2023
Event description
The Odyssey
The genesis of this project began at the end of 2022 when our drama teacher Nicole Ostini brought to the attention of the staff and college a desire for a healing gesture. For the past few years, we have all carried the weight of pandemic restrictions and protocols that have left the Samford Valley Steiner School community like so many other communities around the world, disillusioned, tired, disconnected and concerned for the life and soul of the educational impulse that is so dear to all our hearts. Yes, we managed, we adapted, and we learnt how to continue to thrive, but the cohesiveness of our community took a hit, and we were still reeling from the impact on all our lives. Our students, staff and community would like to share a journey of healing with you.
Come on an epic voyage across our school as we discover what we truly value as our inner home in the trials and tribulations of life.
Sales of tickets and Odyssey T-Shirts are to cover the cost of preparing for and running the performances, with all funds leftover contributing to the Community Bursary Fund.Â
These funds will support a community bursary program. This is a re-enlivened bursary program to support families who are experiencing difficulty with parent contributions (fees). This includes students of Alumni, First Nations parents, and other parents who are strong supporters of the school.
NOTE: These performances are a moving show, audience members will need to walk from one area of the school to another with only two designated times to briefly sit. We will travel in semi darkness and over uneven ground. We recommend ages from 9 up and all children must stay with their parent or guardian at all times. The show will finish by 8pm. Be prepared to walk the distance of the HS grounds and wear walking shoes. Bring water, warm clothes and a sense for adventure.
