Event description

Multiple Choice: Hamilton Screening and Education Discussion

Join the Aotearoa Educators Collective (AEC) for a pivotal evening of discussion focused on the future of education with colleagues in Hamilton. We are proud to host a screening of the compelling documentary, Multiple Choice - see the trailer here.

This film explores the profound and often challenging impacts of high-stakes, standardised testing on students, teachers, and the entire education system. Following the screening, we will open up a vital conversation about how we assess, Curriculum reform, and celebrating what is great about what we are doing now in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Your Voice Matters

This event is a crucial opportunity for educators, policymakers, parents, and community members to engage directly with key issues shaping our local schools and kura. We aim to:

  • Spark informed discussion about the role of assessment and qualifications.

  • Reflect on the implications for the ongoing redevelopment of the New Zealand Curriculum, national testing, and NCEA.

  • Encourage collaboration across our sector to reimagine equitable, future-focused pathways for all learners.

The Event Plan

Come together for a social networking event and evening of insight, hosted at Rototuna High School.

The event will include:

  • A screening of the documentary Multiple Choice (approx. 1 hour).

  • A dynamic DRAFT Panel Discussion featuring a mix of local and national leaders:

    • Panel Convenor - Miranda Makin | Tumuaki at Rototuna Senior High School

    • Keith Buntting (Director, School Engagement and Student Recruitment - The University of Waikato)

    • Dr Claire Coleman (Playful Pedagogies, and formerly involved in Curriculum Refresh)

    • Benjamin Doyle (former Green Party MP)

  • An Audience Q&A to foster broad community dialogue.

This is your chance to connect with peers and contribute your perspective to the national conversation. Secure your spot today!
