Event description

Residents of Lithgow and surrounding regions will have the opportunity to paint alongside renowned artists and explore aquatic life next month at and event designed to bring art and science together in a day of painting, talks and science activities on the banks of Lake Wallace.

Art and Science will be the stars as residents of Lithgow are invited to take part in this new and transformative event. Brainchild of artist Leo Robba in collaboration with Dr Ian Wright, the Painted River Project is a unique event that will draw people from near and far to Lake Wallace to share in an experience centered around the water.

The first if its kind in Lithgow, this project will provide the opportunity for people from different backgrounds and places to enjoy a weekend of creativity in the company of established artists and scientists. Often seen as opposing disciplines, art and science are often not much different in their intention – to explore and understand the world in which we live.

Lucy Culliton, one of Australia’s most recognized female contemporary landscape & still life artists, will be participating in the event. There will be opportunities to learn about the waterways and creatures that impact our water ecology and also to set up in a spot in this unique and precious environment to create an artwork. Bring your own art-making materials and a picnic to make a day of it, or use some of the paper and paints provided on the day.

The Painted River endeavors to engage the community through art on the health and future vision for the rivers given it is central to the future planning of our region. Water and our river systems are the foundation of healthy cities and human well-being.

PLEASE NOTE: In the event of stormy wet weather, the event will be postponed. Please follow our Lithgow Transformation Hub Facebook page and instagram profile for event updates.

The event is being funded by the Black Summer Bushfire Grants Program which is an initiative of the Commonwealth Government National Recovery and Resilience Agency.
