The Carey Community Forum invite you to a discussion on:

Sleep – the forgotten strategy for achieving our personal best - presented by Dr Carmel Harrington (BSc,DipEd, LLB, PhD)

In this presentation, Dr Harrington will provide relevant and up-to-date research highlighting the fundamental role of sleep in our well-being and in our ability to perform at our best. 

The connection between sleep and our physical and mental health will be examined and the effects of sleep on cognitive ability and behaviour will be specifically detailed. Dr Harrington will explain what sleep is and how it is structured and will give strategies to maximise good sleep in yourself and your children. She will also describe the effects of insufficient sleep on the developing brain and how go about setting up healthy sleeping habits in young children and teenagers that will help them achieve optimal wellbeing and their personal best.

Presenters Bio:
Dr Carmel Harrington (BSc,DipEd, LLB, PhD), an Australian sleep scientist, is fascinated by the amazing power of sleep and has spent more than 2 decades researching the effect of poor or insufficient sleep. She has authored numerous academic papers as  well as 2 two bestselling books on sleep - The Sleep Diet and The Complete Guide to a Good Night's Sleep.

Carmel has been involved in education for most of her adult life and has worked with children and teenagers educating them, their parents, and their teachers about the fundamental importance of good sleep. Her work has featured on School TV with Dr Michael Carr-Gregg and her written articles in this area are available online and in print media.
