The Power of the Short Story with David Cohen
Event description
The Power of the Short Story with David Cohen
Learn techniques and explore ways of achieving the economy and focus essential to an effective short story.
In this workshop, we will explore ways of achieving the economy and focus essential to short stories. How do key story elements such as structure, pace, language, and characterisation work together to deliver that all-important emotional/intellectual punch? We’ll take a close look at stories by Flannery O’Connor, Peter Carey, Ernest Hemingway and other notable practitioners of the form, and engage in a series of practical (and fun) writing exercises to build up our own fiction-writing muscles.
Please arrive promptly at 9am for a 9.15am start.
Morning tea will be provided, but not lunch. We suggest you bring your own lunch to save time during the short lunch break.
