Event description

In the first instalment of The Resonant Heart miniseries, Mistress of Ceremony Lizzie Kuoth catches up for a sisterly heart-to-heart conversation with dreamweaver Sarita McHarg, livestreamed directly into the intimacy of our homes at 7:30pm on Monday November 22nd.

A true devotional sitarist and vocalist and master musician, Sarita will weave through an acoustic map of her childhood in a family of renowned Indian-musicians, performing, mastering her craft, exploring the intricacies of Indian Classical Music, moving countries and continents, all the way to finding herself as she shares her musical magic in Melbourne. The conversation will, of course, lead the way for a live performance by Sarita.

Originally conceived in the 2020 and premiered in 2021, The Resonant Heart is a uniquely curated and crafted multidisciplinary project that celebrates the work of an international group of BIPOC and CALD female artists who reside in Melbourne. Collaboratively developed between musician, curator and storyteller Nela Trifkovic and all the artists, the project navigates the quintessential themes of love, grief, joy and suffering, exploring a different aspect of these themes each year.

In 2021, our focus is on musical, theatrical, movement and poetic exploration of dreams – woven and scaped – after a long time being off-stage, imagining and consolidating our creative-rituals-of belonging, the artists are here to communicate more about their day-to-day creative processes, rather than just sharing their art works at the completion stage.

Drawing on this idea, The Resonant Heart’s dream weaving process kicks off now in the form of a mini-series that will introduce each of the artists featured in the line-up of the project’s next major event in March 2022, delivered online, from the beautiful Ok-Topia Yoga Studio in Thornbury.
