Develop practical skills, strengthen your knowledge and feel more confident caring for patients with a stoma.
Who should attend?
This workshop is designed for nurses and other healthcare staff who care for patients/clients/residents with a stoma and would like to build their knowledge, practical skills and confidence in providing stoma care.
It is is particularly suitable for those new to stoma care, returning to practice, or wanting to refresh their skills in the everyday management of patients with a stoma.
What will you learn?
By the end of this practical workshop, you will have a better understanding of:
What a stoma is and why stomas are formed
The different types of stomas and their management
Principles of effective stoma care
How to prevent and manage pouch leakage
Peristomal skin care and common complications
Common stoma products - when and how to use them
How to safely empty and change a stoma pouch
Practical approaches to common stoma care scenarios
What to wear?
Attendees will be encouraged to wear a stoma bag during the workshop. Please wear loose fitting trousers or a skirt.
