The Science of Making Babies: Pregnancy needs the immune system

This event has passed Get tickets

    Event description

Did you know that getting pregnant requires the immune systems of both parents? Semen from the father triggers immune responses in the mother that can help or hinder fertility. The woman’s uterus can be very choosy about accepting the male contribution! And without the immune system, producing breast milk for the baby is impossible. This event is held in collaboration with the Australian and New Zealand Society for Immunology - ASI.

We are pleased to announce our panellists are:

    • Dr Kerrie Foyle - Reproductive Immunology Group, Robinson Research Institute, University of Adelaide
    • Dr David Sharkey Reproductive Immunology Group, Robinson Research Institute, University of Adelaide
    • A/Prof Wendy Ingman - Breast Biology and Cancer Unit, Basil Hetzel Institute for Translational Health Research,
      University of Adelaide

Please join us on Friday 28th June at the Adelaide Irish Club (13-15 Carrington St, Adelaide). The event kicks off at 6:00 pm and will finish by approximately 7:30 pm. Doors will open at 5:30 pm. All drinks are to be purchased at the bar but guests are welcome to bring their own snacks/food. Attendance is free, but please register so the venue can set up the seating. We recommend arriving early to secure your preferred seating.

New to SciPub? Wondering what we are about?
The principal goal of SciPubAdelaide is to make science engaging and accessible to the public. Each panel consists of three experts who deliver 10-15 minute presentations on their area and then open up to questions from the audience via a moderator. Panellists are selected primarily on their ability to effectively communicate science in an engaging and non-technical manner. SciPubAdelaide is held in a pub so that scientists, aspiring scientists, and non-scientists can learn, discuss and think critically about hot topics in science.
