The Scornful Four 7” vinyl single launch
Event description
Andrew Garton - alto saxophone
Sharon Elaine - trumpet
Helen Russell - double bass
Aaron Jansz - drums
The Scornful Four has cooked up a new broth of songs, with a single entitled simply ‘40’ to be thrown into the world on super limited edition 7” vinyl, with just 10 copies being pressed by 4000 Records.
The Scornful Four features Andrew Garton on saxophone, Sharon Elaine on trumpet, Helen Russell on bass and Aaron Jansz on drums. It started out as a Chet Baker/Gerry Mulligan Quartet rip-off/tribute with Garton on baritone saxophone, but he has made the switch to alto with revered reference to the enigmatic beauty and undeniably Australian rasp of Bernie McGann, as well as the often chord-less ensembles of Ornette Coleman. The classic jazz hero-worship continues with nods to the legendary pianoless groups of Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane’s fiery 1960s ensembles, the intensity of Mark Simmonds and Scott Tinkler, and the genre-breaking excursions of Sandy Evans.
The launch show will feature two powerful sets from The Scornful Four, with the super limited edition 7” vinyl single available at the event.
Pre-sale tickets are just $10 (plus booking fee) or $15 on the door.
