For Summer lovers and for lovers of Summer, Borderspace presents: The Seasons Change, The Seasons Change: six artists on Summer’s End.

The Seasons Change, The Seasons Change. Summer slips away once again. Once again, the cold creeps in, the rain soaks through. The days get shorter. Much shorter. No more daylight savings — evening swims, walking home, slowly in the unscheduled open. No more sweaty nights, Kmart fans whirring away. No more tipping out sandy shoes, sandy bags, salty towels. Bikinis on the hills hoist, towels hanging over the balcony, tablecloth stained with laughter and love. The orchids and rose lilies retire into a well-deserved slumber. Rest before rebirth. Stack the outdoor chairs, sweep the falling stars. Welcome the cool tender kiss of April.

What does Summer mean to you? What does its ending mean to you? 

Kayla, Sarah, Maya, Mila, Max, and Amelie reflect on their memories of Summer and how the passing season makes them feel. Playing with light, colour, textiles and imagery, they notice the softness around them, of leaves not-yet falling off the trees, of the rising tide washing away their footprints: temporary, fleeting. Through painting, drawing, printmaking and mixed media, they invite you into a momentary world fueled by caffeine and sunlight and the rush of diving into cold water. Observing themselves and their surroundings, their works are nostalgic, reflective and aware. They ask: If you could stay in a perpetual Summer, would you? Would you still appreciate it the same as when it’s only temporary?
