Adventures in Kyrgyzstan: bikepacking, culture & society
Event description
A special presentation featuring Good Cycles Geelong's John Paul, & special guest speaker direct from Krygyzstan – Aigul Kubatbekova!
When John Paul, manager of Good Cycles Geelong, set out on the Silk Road Mountain Race, he knew he was in for an epic journey. The race, a 1,938km, unsupported, single-stage cycling challenge, winds through the rugged mountains of Kyrgyzstan.Â
Along the way, John Paul encountered breathtaking landscapes, remote communities, and overcame unexpected challenges, all while immersing himself in the unique rhythm of an extreme race.
To deepen this experience, we're joined by special guest Aigul Kubatbekova, visiting from Kyrgyzstan, who will introduce us to the rich history, culture, and customs of her homeland. She’ll share stories of Kyrgyzstan’s heritage, the influence of the Silk Road on its identity, and the social and political changes that continue to shape this Central Asian nation today.
This night promises to be more than a tale of bikepacking—it's an invitation to explore the landscapes, people, and heritage of one of the world’s most remarkable destinations. Perfect for adventurers, travelers, and those curious about life beyond the familiar, come join us for an inspiring journey into the heart of Kyrgyzstan!
