Join us for the silver jubilee celebration of Emanuel Synagogue's Rabbi Jacqueline Ninio OAM—the first female rabbi to be awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia—who will be honoured for 25 impactful years of service and commitment to Australia's largest progressive congregation, and well beyond.

Rabbi Jacqueline Ninio OAM shattered the glass ceiling a quarter-century ago when she became the first female rabbi at Emanuel Synagogue, the seventh Australian-born progressive rabbi, and just the third Australian-born female rabbi. Her journey is a testament to her uniqueness, fortitude and talent.

Rabbi Ninio’s tenure at Australia’s largest synagogue has been defined by an unwavering commitment to the community. She has fostered an inclusive, welcoming environment where everyone is valued.

Rabbi Ninio’s influence extends far beyond Emanuel Synagogue. As a stalwart proponent for social justice, she has led the charge for marriage equality, actively tackled food insecurity, and advocated for the rights of the marginalised and underrepresented, including refugees, across the wider community and broader society.

Embodying grace and kindness, Rabbi Ninio is a role model for Jewish women everywhere. As we honour her extraordinary leadership, we eagerly anticipate the future she envisions—a future marked by progress, inclusivity, and endless possibilities.

This year, Rabbi Ninio became the first female rabbi to receive a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the Jewish community and interfaith organisations, which was announced as part of the King's Birthday 2024 Honours List.
