The Social Showdown

Social Game Showdown is a free, interactive event for Tourism, Hospitality and Events students. Take part in five entertaining team games before connecting with faculty and fellow students through relaxed networking. Unlike a formal networking event, it uses shared activities to make conversations feel natural, helping you build meaningful connections beyond the classroom. No special skills are required, just come ready to participate, meet new people and enjoy the experience!

Networking is not about meeting everyone in the room, it is about creating a few meaningful connections. Use these quick tips to introduce yourself confidently, ask thoughtful questions and continue the conversation after the event.

1. Prepare a 20-second introduction

Share your name, study level, area of interest and career goal.

2. Set a realistic target

Aim for three meaningful conversations instead of trying to meet everyone.

3. Ask experience-based questions

Ask how professionals entered the industry or which skills helped them progress.

4. Listen & Follow up

Build your next question from their answer rather than following a rehearsed script.

5. End the conversation confidently

Thank them for their time and ask whether you may connect with them on LinkedIn.

6. Send a personalised follow-up

Message them within 48 hours and mention something specific from your conversation.
